The Honorable Kelly Thomasson, Secretary of the Commonwealth, will be our featured speaker at the June 29thWE Lead program. Secretary Thomasson will share her career path and discuss how to become more involved in local and state government through service on boards and commissions. Learn how you can better position yourself for appointments and offices and additional ways to become involved in local and state government.
Secretary Thomasson was sworn in as Secretary of the Commonwealth for Governor Terry McAuliffe in April. She served as the Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth from January 2014 until April 2016. Before joining the administration, she worked for Senator Mark Warner for over 13 years in a various capacities including Projects Director in his Senate office and Director of Scheduling in the Office of the Governor. Kelly is a native of Richmond and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. As Secretary of the Commonwealth, Secretary Thomasson assists the Governor in his appointments of nearly 4,000 individuals to serve on Virginia's boards and commissions.
Women Empowered (WE!) Lead is a new initiative that is designed to encourage women in the Danville-Pittsylvania County region to pursue their ambitions and to change the conversation from what we can't do to what we can do.
Programs will be held bi-monthly with speakers who can provide inspiration and support to assist other women in their professional journeys, in community and civic engagement, and in work-life balance.
