World Premiere of "Driven"
Wendell Scott Foundation to Present World Premiere Screening of StoryCorps Animated Short, Driven, in Celebration of Black History Month on February 1st
On February 1, to kick off Black History Month, the Wendell Scott Foundation will host the world premiere of Driven, an animated short film about Wendell Scott, the first African American inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, produced by the groundbreaking oral history project StoryCorps.
The premiere will take place at 7:30pm on Monday, February 1st at the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s 278-seat High Octane Theater (400 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28202) and will be followed by a panel discussion and Q & A with special guests. The screening will be free and open to the public.
The audio for Driven comes from a conversation Warrick Scott, Wendell’s grandson and the Executive Director of the foundation, had with his father, Frank Scott, in Danville, Virginia during a StoryCorps recording event. Frank remembers a man who, throughout the 1960s and 70s, poured his heart, soul, and all of his earnings into maintaining his own race car, and reflects on what it took for his father to cross the finish line at racetracks throughout the South.
