About Us
Smokestack Theatre Company is a nonprofit organization serving Danville, Pittsylvania County, and the surrounding region. We are an ensemble of theatre artists dedicated to creating quality, exciting, and transformative theatre for the cultural enrichment of the entire community. We strive to enhance our community through education and outreach to adults and children, providing innovative instruction and creative expression to inspire another generation of theatre artists.
We provide “Theatre for Everyone” and access to the Arts year round. Whether you are an attendee enjoying live theatre or a participant on stage and off, Smokestack provides a safe space for all. Our Main Stage shows consist of four different shows each year, our most involved productions featuring some of the best talent in the Dan River Region. Children of all ages participate in Summerstack, learning during summer camps and performing in the annual youth production. Adults enjoy winding down at Smokestack Improv where unscripted comedy provides all the laughs. People of all ages enjoy our annual Historical Walking Tours and the special on stage performance for those unable to walk the tours. Our Second Stage provides a space for artists of all kinds to perform and showcase their work including exploration in unconventional theater and play readings. Select shows are performed for ADA and ASD individuals and their families so that they can enjoy the magic of theater in a safe inclusive space catered to special needs. Volunteers of all ages consider Smokestack their family and feel it is a second home.
