Special Education Teacher

Come join our GROWING Building Blocks family! We are a small (maximum 18 student) school for students with autism as their primary disability. We have a small team of three teachers and each student has their own 1:1 aide! The Special Education Teacher will also have support from staff to assist with material preparation as well as support from BCBA's to address behavioral concerns. We do our best to prevent burn-out and understand the stresses of special education.

Qualifications:

The Special Education Teacher person shall be a graduate of an accredited college or university, with a post-baccalaureate endorsement in the field of special education, and shall demonstrate the skills in order to effectively carry out the duties involved. Maintain current teaching license as an educator per VDOE standards.

Essential Functions:

The duties and responsibilities of the post-baccalaureate special education teacher at the private day school for children with autism

· Responsible for educational program planning, program implementation, program progression, and documentation of progress for assigned students of Building Blocks/Center for Pediatric Therapies

· Responsible for assistance of supervision of support staff, specifically educational and behavioral assistants

· Assumes the responsibilities of The Director of Education should he/she be unable to perform their duties

· Assist Educational Director with program implementation including but not limited to: material development, progress reports, report cards, student assessments etc.

· Assist with the following daily tasks: planning field trips, create circle time agenda, prepare materials as necessary

· Create lesson plans for transition class and for students following regular education curriculum per Virginia SOLs as appropriate and/or create lesson plans for students on applied studies diploma track following the VESOLs.

· Introduce and record data for the student’s response to educational programming.

· Record mastery of goals on the IEP of an assigned student and ensure goals are updated and current.

· Responsible for data entry and record collection into designated software program(s).

· Review program and data and implement changes to program as necessary.

· Plan/Participate in staff development activities and training as required.

· Acquire and/or maintain professional educator license.

· Carryout additional responsibilities/duties as assigned by the Director of Education (DOE).

· Responsible for following the established policies and procedures of Building Blocks/The Center for Pediatric Therapies, Inc.

· May be required to assume an organizational leadership role in the absence of the DOE.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $51,000.00 per year
