About Us

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) provides access to college degrees and job training for in-demand careers in the heart of downtown South Boston, VA. SVHEC’s partnerships with Danville Community College, Southside VA Community College, Longwood University and Old Dominion University, put a range of diploma, certificate, and two and four year degree programs at your fingertips. High demand programs include nursing, education, and human services.

SVHEC also provides job training in Information Technology, Welding, Mechatronics, and HVAC. SVHEC staff works closely with business and industry to align programming to industry standards, and all training is customizable to fit the specific needs of area employers.

Specific job training is available to high school students from Halifax, Mecklenburg, and Charlotte Counties through the SVHEC’s Career Tech Academy. Eleventh and twelfth grade students pursue hands-on training in Information Technology or Mechatronics, and may receive community college credit and earn industry credentials. For students who enroll in the Career Tech Academy’s Year 2 program, paid work-based learning and apprenticeship options are available.
